Anthony Svelto from Cape Town in South Africa has climbed to the Top of Kilimanjaro to raise the Palestinian Flag.
Anthony says it was a profoundly personal and symbolic act to fly the Palestinian flag atop Mount Kilimanjaro, not only as a testament to the resilience and enduring spirit of the Palestinian people but also as a gesture of solidarity from the heart of a South African — a nation with its own history of struggle for freedom and equality.
The journey to the summit of Kilimanjaro was challenging, yet it pales in comparison to the daily adversities faced by the Palestinians.
Anthony says in every step, he saw a reflection of their unyielding determination to overcome obstacles and aspire for a life marked by dignity, peace, and a right to self-determination.
“As a South African, I am deeply moved by our shared history of resistance against oppression and the universal quest for human rights. This act was not just a personal achievement but a platform to amplify the voices of those who are often unheard, to shine a light on the ongoing plight in Gaza and beyond, and to remind the world of the importance of empathy, unity, and action in the face of injustice.”
